WHAT WE DO
St. Luke’s Hospital is presently a 60-bed facility that is divided into the presidential ward, VIP ward, pediatric ward, and general ward. The hospital has six VIP wards, including a spacious presidential ward that is fully equipped with a ventilator and multiparameter monitor. The wards are further structured to handle surgical, medical, pediatric, and Obstetrics and Gynecology clients.
Consultations and clinics:
The consultation clinic in St. Luke’s hospitals encompasses the general outpatient, children's outpatient, geriatrics, NHIS (family medicine clinics), specialist, and sub-specialist clinics. In a different section of the hospital are the immunization, dental, and Obstetrics and Gynecology clinics.
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Family Medicine and sub-specialist clinics are open. The weekend consultations are at the general outpatient clinic between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., as are emergency clinic visits. Outside these hours, the doctor-on-call sees clients at the emergency clinic. The Family Medicine Clinic is manned by the consultant family physician, residents, and medical officers. Each of the sub-specialist clinics has their own specific consultation days but can still be invited to see a client outside their consultation days.
There are presently four general outpatient consultation rooms, one gynecological consultation room, and one pediatric consultation room. The sub-specialist, depending on their pool of patients, time, and day of clinic, may also use any of the general outpatient consultation rooms for their clinics. Each consultation room is en suite, digitalized, and equipped with the necessary medical tools.
Nursing Services:
Nursing services are provided by a mix of nurses with minimum qualifications of Staff Nurse/ Midwife (RN/RM)
Operating Theatres:
There are three operating theatres including a dedicated obstetric theatre on the first floor. There is also a functional operating theatre attached to the emergency unit on the ground floor.
Dialysis Centre:
The hospital has three dialysis machines and offers a 24-hour service to both inpatients and outpatients.
Pharmacy Services:
The pharmacy has qualified pharmacists, technicians, and interns. It is open 24 hours a day, and the department is accredited by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria for training interns. The stocking of drugs is based on the National Drug Formulary, which ensures that essential drugs are never out-of-stock, and the digitalized recording and monitoring of drugs ensures they are not lost due to expiration.
Laboratory Services:
The laboratory is manned by highly experienced medical laboratory scientists and technicians. It operates with fully automated machines that cover the areas of hematology, clinical chemistry, and microbiology. The hospital laboratory also collaborates with external laboratories like ECHO Lab and the Federal Medical Center's Asaba laboratory. The investigation results are digitally posted and archived, while hard copies are printed on patient request.
Medical Manpower:
There is one family medicine resident and seven medical officers on ground. The hospital also has full-time consultant family physician, obstetricians and gynecologists, pediatricians, and general surgeons. The part-time consultants provide coverage across the specialties and sub-specialties. The services include consultant clinics, ward rounds, and attending to emergencies in their specialties as the need arises.
Radiology Services:
The medical imaging facilities in St. Luke’s Hospital include MRI, CT-Scan, 4DUltra sound scan, Digital x-ray, Echo and special contrast investigations. The Radiology Unit is manned by radiologists (visiting) and radiographers.
Other Support Services:
St. Luke’s Hospital has a well-equipped ambulance with monitors and facilities for continuous oxygen supply while in transit. The hospital is connected to a 33 KVA line, which ensures a 24-hour power supply, and standby generators of 500 KVA and 450 KVA are also available. There are private security guards and a CCTV system covering all areas of the hospital. The maintenance unit provides 24-hour coverage to the hospital. The hospital also has well-trained personnel manning the laundry department.
Residential Quarters:
All the medical officers and some other staff are accommodated in blocks of self-contained flats within the hospital premises. There are also reserved flats for use by visitors.
